LANSING, MICH. - Efforts are underway to change the "Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund" which is used to improve land for public recreation.
The fund uses royalties from gas and oil drilling and over the last 40 years has provided $1 billion for improvements to parks, trails and more.
The Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Board has made spending decisions over the years, but proposed legislation would attempt to change that.
Bill Rustem, a member of the Board says lawmakers in the past have tried to raid the Trust Fund to finance everything from transportation to balancing the budget.
