State lawmakers push for greater gas pump security

LANSING, MICH. - State lawmakers want to make it harder for people to steal credit card information from drivers who pay at the pump.

A new senate bill would require security devices to prevent credit card information from being retrieved from gas pumps. Those devices include credit card encryption equipment and security tape, both of which would restrict thieves from getting inside pump panels.

A state investigation last year found there were nearly 70 credit card skimmers installed at gas pumps across Michigan.
