GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Students put out by the sudden closing of a Grand Rapids area beauty school say they are still having trouble contacting the company.
Regency Beauty institute closed on September 28th. Students say they were told that “student services” would be answering questions, but the phone number that they were given, isn't working.
They called 13-on your side for help. After making a few phone calls, WZZM found out a local school was willing to help.
At Empire Beauty School, career planning specialist Ashley Putnam says some of the former Regency students are already taking tours. "We're doing what we can, it's all on a case by case basis."
Putnam is helping students with transferring credits, and determining the best way to finish their classes.
"We take their transcripts and figure out how to best help them finish their cosmetology education."
Empire posted on its website that it would help students find financial aid. "Depending on each individual, and what they have gone through, we are helping out with some grants, and in some cases, waving upfront fees."
The U-S Department of Education also has information on its website about times and dates that students can call-in and ask questions. They can also apply for "closed school loan discharges".
Back at Empire, some students are already signed up and will be heading back to school this month. Others can call and set up a tour. "We want to help them, so it makes more sense and so it can be seamless and easy for them" says Putnam.
