HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM)-The last U.S. slaves found out about their freedom two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
Although the anniversary is Tuesday, June 19, the nation recognized Juneteenth this year on Saturday, June 16. In Holland, people celebrated Juneteenth with a music filled festival. Participants say it's a great way to reflect on what their ancestors accomplished, paving the way for their own success.
This was the 12th year for Holland's Juneteenth Festival.
