MUSKEGON, MI (WZZM) - Meteorologist Alana Nehring headed over to the lakeshore on Wednesday to check out a new sport that's definitely getting some wind it it's sails!
MACkite offers kiteboarding lessons; but since the sport is weather dependent, you won't see people on the water daily.
Nick DeBone, and instructor with MACkite, talks about a very important tool; the windsock.
"We put it up every day we have lessons," said DeBone. "We look at this for a lot of different information. We look at it for wind speed and direction. And, also if it's variable or gusty or moving around a lot. So, once in a while, while we are riding, the wind can change direction a little bit. And so, when we come in, we can check the windsock and see what direction and then we can more safely land our kites or launch them or just, basically know exactly what the wind is doing."
Kiteboarding is just one more livelihood that depends on the weather.
