GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WZZM) For the twelfth summer in a row, the city beach in Grand Haven is alive with one of the biggest events of its kind anywhere.

300 pole vaulters are expected to compete in the annual Grand Haven Beach Vault competition in front of Bil-Mar Restaurant. This year's field is highlighted by four female athletes who recently competed in the Olympic Trials and two-time NCAA champion Jordan Scott from the University of Kansas.

"The Beach Vault has been a tradition," says University of Michigan vaulter and East Kentwood alum Robbie Rix. "This is my sixth year doing it. My coach (Dave Emeott) runs it. It's a great time every year. I look forward to it every summer. It's kind of cool, all of us go away to college and get to come back and get to see each other for the weekend. It's just a great time."

Vaulting continues Saturday morning at 9:00 and runs through 6:00 p.m.
