UPDATE AT 11:00 P.M.- They didn't just lose TVs, jewelry and other valuables; renters of storage space in Ottawa County say thieves also took their memories and keepsakes.
Burglars broke into at least 40 lockers at two storage businesses in Grand Haven and Crockery Township. At Power Drive Storage, they used wire cutters to open a hole in a security fence and broke the locks on the storage units. Once inside, they grabbed electronic equipment, athletic gear, jewelry and anything else that looked valuable.
"Probably had a small team cutting locks and the other ones rummaging," suggests storage locker renter Steven Russell.
"They had a pile of my stuff down at the end ready to take out, but for some reason they didn't take it," says renter Jim Nicholson.
"I'm missing some power tools and a jewelry box with a lot of jewelry in it," says renter Bryan Holmes, after taking quick inventory.
He says some of the jewelry pieces were worn by grandmothers. Other items were gifts given on special occasions, full of sentimental value.
"Yea, I mean, you buy jewelry for a reason," explains Holmes. "[Including] stuff from trips, antique stuff you can't find again."
