MONTAGUE, Mich. (WZZM) - A Muskegon County teenager is seriously injured after, investigators say, he ran into the side of  a semi-truck Wednesday afternoon. The accident happened around 3 p.m. at the intersection of Whitbeck and Eilers Road.

Authorities found the victim, Tyler James Cumings, 17, trapped under the rear wheels of the semi. Investigators believe the teen rode into the semi as it was traveling north on Whitbeck.

Cumings' backpack got tangled on the trailer causing him to be drug for about 40 feet until the vehicle could come to a complete stop.  Michael Remkes called 911 after seeing the accident. "The truck was still on his arm. And the fire department had to pick it up and lift the truck."

"At this point he is still alive, as far as we know, but very, very serious condition... and we just hope that he can pull through, " says Lt. Shane Brown of the Muskegon County Sheriff's Dept.

Police found Cumings' iPod in the street. They aren't sure if he was using it as he was riding.

Michigan State Police are reconstructing the crash and will do blood tests on the truck driver and Cumings.

He is being treated at Hackley Hospital in Muskegon. Hospital staff could not release his condition.
