Six blocks of Lake Street in Whitehall make up Michigan's first "green street."
WHITEHALL, Mich. (WZZM) -- What's being called Michigan's first "green street" will open to traffic this week.
Six blocks of Lake Street in Whitehall have been under re-construction since summer.
The $1 million road project includes a unique porous concrete that collects storm water. Contaminants from streets and lawn are then directed through a filtration chamber under the street.
The green street is expected to help keep pollutants out of White Lake.
The project also includes a waterfront bike path and street parking.
