GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WZZM) - A lakeshore man, accused of writing a racist comment on an apartment wall, is cleared of charges.
A jury Friday found Kenneth Schmidt not guilty of ethnic intimidation and malicious destruction of a building.
In May 2012, detectives say an African American maintenance man had just finished painting a unit at Williamsburg Court Apartments. He found a racial slur on the wall after stepping away to get supplies.
Police used handwriting samples to connect Schmidt to the incident.
