Scholarship fund being created in memory of Ryan Fischer

KENTWOOD, Mich. (WZZM) -- Something good is coming out of the sudden and tragic death of Ryan Fischer, the Grandville hockey player who died March 7th of complications of an enlarged heart.

Ryan's parents, Scott and Roni Fischer, are establishing a scholarship fund in their late son's honor.

Several supporters have rallied together and are creating special commemorative t-shirts and wrist bands that are being sold.

The t-shirts are being sold for $10 apiece while the memorial bracelets are being sold for a suggested minimum donation of $1.

All the proceeds will go to the "Ryan Fischer Scholarship Fund", which will be awarded annually to an O-K Conference hockey player whose character, determination, integrity, academic achievement and community service best resembles the life that Ryan lived.

"The mission is to know how great of a kid Ryan was," said Alex Birkman, who plays hockey for East Kentwood High School and is spearheading the t-shirt drive. "It doesn't really matter how many shirts we sell as long as we're selling and getting money to his foundation, and as long as the Fischers understand that people still care and love ryan."

If you're interested in purchasing a t-shirt and/or a bracelet, there are two ways you can do it.
