GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)- Financial guru Suze Orman is offering free advice to help us get through these difficult financial times.

Earlier this week she talked with WZZM 13 Morning News Anchor Derek Francis about her new book "Suze Orman's 2009 Action Plan: Keeping Your Money Safe and Sound."

Orman says 2009 is "the most vital year in your financial future" and she wrote the book late last year to help us all make the most of our money. In it, she discusses her 5-Step Financial Action Plan that includes your credit cards.

Orman says, "Your number one thing should be to get out of credit card debt, if and only if you know that your job is secure. If your job is not secure and you think that you're going to be losing your job, and you don't have an emergency fund, forget paying the credit cards. I'd rather see you accumulate cash, so that if in fact you lose your job, you are able to pay your food bills, possibly your rent, things that you need and deal with your credit cards later." You can watch Orman's full interview with WZZM 13 News by clicking on the video player on the right side of this story.

Orman's new book is brief. It costs about $5, but you can download it for free through Thursday night (January 15) on The Oprah Winfrey Show website. To do so click here.

Note: Orman's publisher provided the satellite time for our interview.
