National health expert says hormone therapy for menopause is helpful

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) A leading national expert on women's health held a seminar in Grand Rapids Thursday night to answer questions about sex after menopause.

Doctor Alan Altman is an expert on the subject nd speaks to women across the country. He says one of the most common questions is about the safety of estrogen replacement therapy.
He says when it is done correctly, it can protect women from potentially deadly diseases.

Dr. Alan Altman,Clinical Professor Obstetrics at Harvard, "We've shown that we can cut their future risk of almost 40% of women getting heart attacks. When they start the appropriate hormonal therapy at the appropriate time. Not starting it 20 years after menopause as many of the studies have looked at.

Altman is in the middle of producing a documentary looking at the confusion and fear surrounding hormone therapy.

It's called 'Hot Flash Havoc and will be in theaters nationally.
