HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM)- It is working so well in Holland that the owner of an upscale, boutique hotel is going to open something similar in downtown Grand Rapids.  A CityFlats Grand Rapids hotel is planned in the former Fox Jewelers building on Monroe Center.

The owner says it will have many of the features that make CityFlats in Holland so popular.  There will be some differences.  The CityFlats in Holland was built from the ground up and the hotel planned for Grand Rapids is a renovation of the Fox building.

The owner says the Grand Rapids hotel will have many of the high end features that have made the Holland property so successful.  The decor is very modern, lots of recycled materials, flat-screen televisions, and a trendy bar and coffee shop.

The owner says the Fox building will be the company's first renovation.  He says he was just driving around town one day and it caught his eye.  CityFlats Hotel Co-owner Chuck Reid says, "It is a great location for us."

Hotel Marketing Coordinator Sarah Lilly says, "As you move into the room you see they are quite spacious in size.  We've incorporated tv's so guests can watch the on the couch on while they are in bed.  If you go through every room they have their own colors and characteristics their own designs."

All 57 rooms in the Holland hotel is different and that is why the owners say they will design the 28 rooms planned for the Grand Rapids property.  It will cater mostly to business travelers.

Construction is scheduled to start by the end of the year with a grand opening planned next spring.
