GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Three young activists are throwing an all-day party in Eastown to help with the B.P. Oil Spill cleanup off the Gulf of Mexico.
All of proceeds from the benefit will support organizations dedicated to helping wildlife affected by the spill.
"We're just trying to do what we can from the midwest," said organizer Lori Church. "They need money... desperately."
The event featured 10 local bands and musicians, live art painting and a silent auction featuring items from various local restaurants and businesses.
"It came from just frustrated," said organizer Kari Makarewicz. "Feeling like I'm stuck in Michigan, not being able to help."
Guests provided $10 at the door or $7 with a supply donation.
Funds are going to the Louisiana Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Rescue in New Orleans.
Guests are also encouraged to donate items like towels, Bottled water and dish soap.
"Yeah, donate some money and help out. Hopefully we can make a difference," said Makarewicz.
