The Grand Rapids Boys and Girls Club, Grand Rapids.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM)- It will be a special Thanksgiving this year at the Grand Rapids Boys and Girls Club. They will take home gift bags filled with fruits and vegetables to use as part of their Thanksgiving dinner. It is part of Amway's Positive Sprouts program.
This summer the children were able to clean up an empty lot and plant several gardens. It was the first time any of them had ever planted on and the first time many of them had ever tasted different kinds of vegetables.
Boys and Girls Club Member Christayzha Johnson says, "I never ate these because my mom never cooked them because she never liked them."
The garden was so successful that the club says it will plant one again next year and the children are already thinking about what should go in it. As part of the Positive Sprouts program, Amway is hosting a Harvest Party for the Boys and Girls club Friday. It will include recipes and healthy eating tips for the holiday.
