UPDATE AT 1:00 A.M. (WZZM) -- Over a hundred children attending a birthday party ducked and ran for cover after a group of teenagers began firing their guns at a community center party Friday night.

It happened around 11 p.m. Friday at the Streams of Hope Community Center in the 200 block of 60th St. SE.

Eight black males tried to be admitted to the party, but were denied by a supervising adult. That's when the suspects pulled multiple weapons and shot nearly two dozen times.

The adult was hit in the back of the head, but his injury was not life threatening. None of the children inside were injured.

Police say the suspects were not invited and the adult prevented the suspects from entering because they appeared to be "suspicious." The suspects drove away in a white car, and an orange colored SUV.

The Kent County Sheriffs Department is continuing their investigation.
