FREMONT, Mich. (WZZM)- While they're not going to attend Fremont's new high school, the district seniors today played a unique role in its construction. The class of 2012 held a bell parade this afternoon. The event moved the bell from the school that is about to close to the one that will open this fall.

The bell has hung in various Fremont schools since the late 1800's.

Seniors say they're thankful for the opportunity to take part in such a memorable event.

Fremont Senior Zoe Harmon said, "Cool being the last class out of the old one. So you know this is a memory that I will never forget."

Fremont Senior Travis Bennett said, "It is great knowing that we are shutting down the old school, lot of history there, and great taking part opening up the new school."

Residents approved a $40-million millage in 2009 to pay for construction of the new school.

The class of 2012 graduates Sunday.
