GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)-People were celebrating all things local in downtown Grand Rapids Saturday night.

This was the ninth year for the Local First Street Party, which featured food and beer made in West Michigan. Seven local bands also took the stage. Organizers say the Local First Street Party reminds the community why the local economy is so important.

"Local First is all about celebrating the community and supporting each other, and that's what this street party is about as well. It's about showcasing some of our great local businesses and celebrating the things that make our community unique," said Elissa Hillary, executive director of Local First.

The celebration started a couple blocks away on South Division Avenue, where artists, musicians and local businesses lined the sidewalks for The Market by Avenue for the Arts. More than 60 vendors showcased their work.
