Michigan jobless rate rises in June

LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- The state says Michigan's jobless rate rose 0.1 percentage points in June, the second consecutive monthly increase after a yearlong decline.

Michigan said Wednesday that June's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 8.6%, compared with April's 8.5%.

The Michigan jobless rate in June was 2 percentage points below the state's June 2011 rate of 10.6%. The national jobless rate decreased by 0.9 percentage points over that period.

The state's unemployment rate in June was 0.4 percentage points above the national rate of 8.2%.

The state Department of Technology, Management and Budget says total employment declined statewide by 8,000 in June, while the number of unemployed increased by 7,000.
