Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - The Washington Nationals placed shortstop Ian
Desmond on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a left oblique strain.
The move is retroactive to July 21.
It's the same injury that has been nagging him since before the All-Star
break.
Desmond is batting .286 in 89 games this season. He leads the team with a
career-high 17 home runs and ranks second with 53 RBI.
To fill the roster spot, the Nationals recalled outfielder Corey Brown from
Triple-A Syracuse.
