Workhorse Holiday Decor
If you like to make beautiful table settings for each holiday to impress guests but are fretting over the expense and storage issues of theme-specific dishes and decorations, then check out these great suggestions for repurposing everyday items to fit your budget *and* your closet.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Not everyone has the space to store decorations, vases, entire sets of dishes, napkins, etc. for each and every holiday gathering. It's also a huge investment--not everyone has the cash to purchase décor for EVERY Holiday, especially when already stretching budgets for gift purchases that time of year as well.
Quality MAIN pieces
It's perfectly fine to own one set of quality solid color dishes that can be used year round, but accessorize them with charger plates, accent dishes, and glasses that pertain to each holiday. Nice quality solid-color cloth napkins can be used year-round
and made to look seasonal by changing the napkin ring.
Owning one large clear hurricane vase that can be re-purposed for each holiday by
altering its contents is a smart investment.
Here are three examples of specific holiday table settings using the quality main pieces mentioned and creatively accessorizing them:
Clear glass vase: faux leaves, gourds from farmer's market, other natural twigs, led lights.
Place setting: standard white plate with a textured charger added, leaf napkin ring, printed menu using scrapbook paper, accent dish
Clear glass vase: small bulbs and other narrow ornaments, led lights.
Place setting: standard white plate with a red charger added, "jingle belt" napkin ring, printed menu using scrapbook paper, accent dish
Clear glass vase: metallic silver balls or marbles, confetti, led lights.
Place setting: standard white plate with a metallic charger added, bow tie napkin ring, printed menu using scrapbook paper, accent dish
