Muskegon-Priscilla McLellan's Volkswagen really cooks on the road.
Priscilla said, It does not sound different or drive different. the smell is different.”
That's because Priscilla drives vegetarian. Used restaurant vegetable oil powers her car.
Priscilla said, “When I bring home the vegetable oil it is in something like this (holds up gas container) and it's pretty nasty.
Her recipe calls for straining the oil twice. She's also had her vehicle outfitted with an $800 vegetable grease system, including a special tank in the trunk.
Priscilla said, “You know it costs me time and there is an investment but I am willing to do that.”
Priscilla can switch from vegetable oil to diesel fuel whenever she wants with a toggle button.
In the last five weeks she's gone 2,000two thousand miles and only used 1/8 of a tank of diesel. Plus she said the oil burns cleaner and since it is a waste product, it doesn't cost her a thing.
Priscilla said, “Every time I go into my local gas station they ask me, 'any gas today?' And I just feel like chuckling, nope not me. I don't do that anymore.”
