Tesla charging stations coming to Meijer in Fruitport Township

FRUITPORT TWP., MICH. - Tesla charging stations are being installed at the Meijer store in Fruitport Township.

Those Tesla charge stations will be available for use sometime in the first quarter of 2018.

Similar charging stations at the Meijer store in Big Rapids store will be available for use within the next couple weeks.

According to a blog post on Tesla's website, the company plans to double its number of "superchargers" around the world from 5,000 to 10,000, and increase the number of "destination chargers" to 15,000.

Meijer currently has 17 stores throughout the Midwest with Tesla charging stations, including six in Michigan.

Locally the stores are Cascade Township, Ann Arbor, Traverse City, Cadillac, Ludington and Bay City.

The Cascade Meijer has had these stations for more than two years.
