PORTAGE, MICH. - Portage police confirmed on Wednesday that the body of Theresa Lockhart  was located in Allegan County.

At a news conference Wednesday evening, Portage Police said they had recently confirmed that a body found Tuesday in a wooded area in Allegan County is in fact the body of Theresa Lockhart.

Portage Police went to Christopher Lockhart's home on Tuesday morning, October 24 when the Corrections Department notified police that Lockhart did not make a 10 am check in. Officers found Christopher Lockhart dead in the basement, of an apparent suicide. the Portage Police Chief said they also found a note and a map that lead them to Theresa Lockhart's body.

Tuesday afternoon, Portage Police enlisted the help of the Allegan County Sheriff's Department and officers from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. These officers found Theresa Lockhart's body in woods west of Swan Creek. The body was partially buried, but the recent rain had uncovered part of the body.

The body was sent to a lab at Western Michigan University for identification. Investigators believe the body was buried for "some time" based on the decomposition.

Theresa was last seen on May 18, 2017. In June of 2017 police named her husband Christopher as a person of interest in that case but no arrests were made related to the case.
