Online Shopping and shipping

Time is running out to get those Christmas gifts picked out, and in the mail. That's especially true if you're buying your presents online.

There are a couple of issues going on in 2017.

With Christmas falling on a Monday, there are three less shipping days than in previous years.

There are also record online sales. That means more packages being sent and potentially, more delays.

"It is Thursday or Friday. Those are the big days to do ground shipping", ways Kyle Warmington, owner of Pak Mail in Plainfield Township.

He says it also depends on where the package must go. If your shipping from Michigan to the Midwest or slightly beyond, you should be OK. But, if it's going out west like California, you risk delays. "You start moving to 3-day, 2-day, and overnight and that's pretty expensive."

Same goes for online shopping.  Some stores have already put a deadline on deliveries by only offering 2 or 3-day shipping options. "So, Christmas is on a Monday, so from a shipping standpoint, you lose Saturday, Sunday, and Monday."

The deadline many stores have given is Tuesday, December 19th. That's the latest day to order via standard shipping.  Online sales are expected to top $100 billion this holiday season. That means the potential for delays is higher.

So, if you have any doubts, you could always pick your items up in the store or pay more, for shipping.
