Alcohol, poor road conditions may be factors in fatal Kent County crash

NELSON TOWNSHIP, MICH. - A 21-year-old Comstock Park man is dead and his two teen passengers are injured after a crash near Cedar Springs Thursday night.

According to a news release from the Kent County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened around 10 p.m. near the intersection of Northland Drive and 18 Mile Road in Nelson Township.

The vehicle was heading southbound on Northland Drive when it went off the road and rolled over multiple times before landing in a ditch.

The driver, 21-year-old Patrick Todd Brecken, of Comstock Park, was ejected from the vehicle. Brecken died at the scene, the release said.

There were two teen passengers, ages 15 and 17, in the vehicle with Brecken. They were both taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Investigators say alcohol and poor road conditions were possible factors in the crash. It remains under investigation.
