Fatal accident under investigation in Berrien County

BERRIEN TOWNSHIP, MICH. - Berrien County Sheriff's Office responded to an fatal accident at the intersection of Old US 131 and Deans Hill Road in Berrien Township.

According to the sheriff's office news release, the accident occurred around 6:30 a.m.

Officers on the scene report that Robert Froehlich, of Berrien Center, was driving a 2003 Ford F150. Froehlich turned south onto Old US 131 from Deans Hill Road in front of a 2007 Ford F150, driven by James Ferguson, of Berrien Springs. Both vehicles crashed.

Froehlich exited his vehicle and was struck by a northbound 2004 Toyota, driven by Jennifer Garrett, of Berrien Springs. 

Ferguson and Garrett were not injured, Froehlich was deceased when responders arrived to the scene. He was 81 years old. 

The accident remains under investigation. The Berrien County Sheriff's Office says that all vehicles involved in the incident were secured as evidence and a final report will be sent to the prosecutor for review.
