2 people killed in I-94 crash near Michigan/Indiana border

NEW BUFFALO TOWNSHIP, MICH. - A crash Saturday morning near the Michigan and Indiana border left two, 20-year-old men dead. 

The Berrien County Sheriff's Department is investigating the fatal crash that happened in New Buffalo Township on I-94 westbound near the 2.5 mile marker Saturday,  Nov. 19.

According to the sheriff's department, at around 10 a.m., a car driven by a woman from the Grand Rapids area collided with a semi-truck headed in the same direction. The woman was able to guide her car to the median and the semi-truck was able to pull off of the roadway on the right side. 

A second westbound vehicle lost control, hitting and sliding underneath the parked semi-truck. The driver, a 20-year-old man and his passenger, both from Illinois, were pronounced dead at the scene by responders, the news release says.

The Grand Rapids woman and her passenger were transported to a Michigan City hospital to treat minor injuries. No injuries were reported from the semi-truck driver.

Police are still investigating this incident.
