Icy roads cause car to crash into Holland motel

HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM) -- A woman woke to the force of a car crashing into her motel room and pushing her bed.

Around 4:45 a.m. Friday a driver sais he tried to avoid hitting another vehicle, then slid on the ice, jumped the curb and careened into the America's Best Value Inn & Suites.

Kristina Gillespie was sleeping at the time when the car slammed into her bed. It pushed her bed up against a dresser and knocked a television onto the floor.

A neighbor in the next room felt the crash too. "I thought the ceiling was going to cave in," recalled Tiffany Cooper.

Kristina Gillespie believes the headboard saved her life. "I'm blessed to be alive. Someone was looking out for me, that's for sure."

Gillespie suffered a minor arm injury. The driver, who was not hurt, told her he was only going 10 miles per hour.
