MSP: Indepedence Day traffic fatalities down this year

LANSING, Mich. (WZZM) -- The Independence Day weekend saw fewer traffic fatalities this year compared to last, according to preliminary figures from the Michigan State Police.

Between the nights of July 3 and July 6, four people died in separate crashes. Two of those fatalities were motorcyclists. The other two included a pedestrian and a vehicle driver.

Alcohol was a factor in two of those crashes, but authorities didn't specify which two.

The 2013 Independence Day weekend saw 19 deaths from traffic crashes.
