Semi driver airlifted from crash in Zeeland Township

HUDSONVILLE, MICH. - One person was flown to the hospital after a crash involving a semi in Zeeland Township this afternoon.

The crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. on 48th Avenue near Quincy Street Thursday, June 15.

The septic tank truck, driven by 39-year-old Carl Dushane, was traveling north on 48th Avenue when it drifted off the right shoulder and then abruptly back across the center line and rolled over into a ditch, deputies say.

Dushane has one passenger, 31-year-old Gregory Knight, who was able to get out, however, Dushane was pinned in the truck when it rolled over. An AeroMed helicopter was called to the scene almost immediately.

According to a news release, Dushane only suffered minor injuries. Crews transported Knight to Metropolitan Hospital, however, he is said to be in stable condition.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office will continue to investigate the incident to determine why Dushane drifted off the shoulder.
