Woman killed, teen injured in car crash in Van Buren County

VAN BUREN COUNTY, MICH - The Van Buren Sheriff's Department is investigating a train versus car accident south of Grand Junction at 16th Avenue at the crossing of the CSX tracks.

According to a statement from the Sheriff's department, there were two victims in the car-- a 47- year-old female, who was found dead in the car when authorities arrived, and a 14-year-old boy.

The driver has been identified as Tiffany Glidden. Her passenger, Sammy Glidden remains in serious, but stable condition at Bronson Hospital.

Sammy was riding in the back seat and needed to be extracted with the jaws of life.

The crashed happened about 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 1.

Deputies say the train was carrying coal and returning from a Port Sheldon power plant. There are no gates at this particular crossing and the train was traveling about 38 to 40 miles per hours, avoiding to the release. Deputies say the woman did not yield at the warning signs leading up to the tracks.  

The crash remains under investigation.
