Two deputies hurt in crash with another car

Two Ottawa County deputies were injured in a crash on Saturday.

HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, MICH. - Two Ottawa County Sheriff's deputies were hurt following a crash with another vehicle Saturday evening.

It happened around 5:40 p.m. at the intersection of 112th Avenue and E Lakewood Boulevard in Holland Township. Deputy Patrick Gedeon an Deputy Travis Schippers were on patrol inside a cruiser and sustained non life-threatening injuries. 

Witnesses tell deputies another vehicle went through the red light at the intersection and hit the cruiser while it was making a legal left hand turn. 

Gedeon and Schippers were taken to the hospital where they were treated and released. The driver of the other vehicle and his passengers were not hurt.

The deputies' vehicle was heavily damaged on the passenger side and one deputy had to be extricated. 

The Holland Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.
