Village of Spring Lake considers disincorporation

SPRING LAKE, MICH. - Will the Village of Spring Lake continue to exist? Disincorporation of the village was debated Monday night at a standing room only meeting.

Some want the village to disincorporate and become a part of Spring Lake Township. Those in favor like Village President, Joyce Hatton, say it would ease financial challenges and lower taxes.

"I feel that these people would very much not like to pay more," says Hatton.

But many neighbors say they want to keep the village together and not lose services like leaf pick-up, snow plowing and more.

"I'm definitely against disincorporation for the village, I very much enjoy the services we receive," says one resident at the meeting Monday night.

There will be another informational meeting held Tuesday, June 20 at 4 p.m. That will take place at the Spring Lake District Library.
