GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - You might remember what happened last year with the voting. A technical issue caused the ArtPrize voting system to shut down for an entire day. But this year, organizers say their tech team has it covered.
"We're so happy that's behind us," Director of Creative & Communications Todd Herring said.
ArtPrize lost almost an entire day of voting last year, when the Amazon Web Services went down. But this year, organizers are ready.
"We have a combination of both internal and third parties that make sure ArtPrize is the most secure platform that it absolutely can be, that hold us accountable and really help us make the event happen," Herring said.
The public vote is what makes ArtPrize, ArtPrize.
"It is our significant--it's internationally, it's the thing that makes it completely unique it's the thing that differentiates us," Herring said.
So how does it work?
Search ArtPrize in your app store, and download it for free. Make sure your location settings is turned on. The app will ask for your phone number, and will send you a text with a confirmation code. Enter that code, and you're registered to vote.
The voting system is what staff says sets this event apart from other art shows.
"It's all about you, it's all about the audience, it's all about getting out there and making up your own mind about what you think should win the big prize."
The art pieces are set up all around the downtown area.
But the good news is, as long as you've registered and activated your location downtown once, you can vote for your favorites from home or anywhere else for the duration of ArtPrize.
