(Detroit Free Press)- Nancy Brinker, who founded the Susan G. Komen for the Cure in honor of her late sister, will be one of three speakers for Michigan State University's December commencement. Brinker, a cancer survivor herself, formed the organization in 1982 after her only sister died from breast cancer at age 36.
MSU ceremonies will be held Friday, Dec. 11, and Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Jack Breslin Student Events Center at the main campus in East Lansing. Brinker will address undergraduates at 2 p.m. Saturday and receive an honorary doctor of humanities degree.
Other commencement speakers include Robert Tjian, president of the Chevy Chase, Md.-based Howard Hughes Medical Institute, who will speak at the ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday, and Edward Minskoff, president of a New York-based real estate acquisition and development company, who will speak at the ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday.
