'What does this mean?': Bride-to-be at a loss after Alfred Angelo closing

Bride deals with store closing

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - After a nationwide bridal gown retailer shut down all of its locations as a result of bankruptcy, brides all over the country are scrambling for answers amid all the uncertainty.

WZZM 13 called Alfred Angelo's attorney who said the store will fulfill it's current orders even after the bankruptcy filing. But for some, that still doesn't fix the frustration it's caused.

Bride-to-be Anna Wilkowski says she was sure she found the perfect dress.

"There was a blush one that I really liked and it looked really vibrant and when I put it on it was perfect, which is rare when trying on dresses," Wilkowski said.

She found the dress at the Alfred Angelo location on 28th Street in Grand Rapids and it needed very minimal alterations. 

"The only thing we'd have to take in was the sleeves. I could have taken it home, but I figured because I was paying for it in full, I'd get a brand new on that no one had ever tried on," Wilkowski said.

But on Friday, the retail chain shut its doors.

"I was speechless. I was with my fiance and we both looked at each other like, 'what does this mean?'" Wilkowski said.

The front doors of the store had a note, telling clients to email the company. Wilkowski paid for her dress in full, nearly $1,400.

"Right now I'm just angry because that was my own money, that was my own investment," Wilkowski said. "Just when you think you're doing the right thing and trying to be responsible and trying to pay it all off and be done with it. It's infuriating that I have to start all over and I had my mind set on the perfect dress."

And when you know, you know.

"You go and try on so many dresses and they're not always the right size, you have to clip them or change them so that they'll fit you just to try them on...but that dress was perfect," Wilkowski said.

According to the company attorney, Alfred Angelo plans on delivering wedding dresses to brides, however, they are still working out logistics. If you have purchased a dress from Alfred Angelo and have concerns, email Patricia Redmond at predmond@stearnsweaver.com.
