Woman gets probation for deadly attack on dog

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. (WZZM) - A Byron Center woman who pleading guilty to killing her dog with a butcher's knife was sentenced Monday, Oct. 31 to two years’ probation for the New Year’s Day attack.

Ronda Pekel, 46, pleaded guilty but mentally ill to a felony charge of killing and torturing an animal. She was facing up to four years in prison.

Kent County Circuit Court Judge George Jay Quist on Monday placed her on probation for two years.

Police say she stabbed her dog multiple times inside her home on Westview Drive SW in southern Kent County.

Charges were filed after a necropsy was performed in late January.
