Wyoming mom faces murder charge after infant son dies

Mother faces charges after infant death

WYOMING, MICH. - A Wyoming mother faces a murder charge for the death of her 6 month old child. Police say on Wednesday afternoon 22-year-old Lovily Johnson walked into DeVos Children'd Hospital with her six-month-old son. Authorities say the baby was dead on arrival.

"It just breaks your heart," neighbor Scott Hansen, said.

Police believe the death occurred on the 2600 block of McKee in Wyoming. On Thursday, the Kent County Prosecutor's Office issued a charge of felony murder and first degree child abuse.

We spoke to a friend of Johnson's off camera who tells us she would have never done anything like this.

"It's sad," Hansen added. "I mean, I got a 20 year old daughter, I hate to think if she would have went at the age. You don't know what to expect in this world anymore."

The Prosecutor's Office says 62A District Court will decide when an arraignment will take place. Johnson is also the mother of a two year old.
