ALPINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM)- An empty storefront in Alpine Township is once again welcoming customers. The Salvation Army opened its eighth thrift store in West Michigan Friday.
The new shop is located on Alpine Avenue in part of the former Bust Buy building.
Salvation Army volunteers are hoping heavy traffic on the avenue will add up to high sales.
Major Roger Senn, the Administrator with the Adult Rehabilitation Center said, "We had looked at this building a year or so ago and it was; this is a dream come true for us."
The new thrift shop features more than 105,000 garments and 50,000 household goods. Workers say customers were lining up Friday morning to get inside.
Major Roger Senn said, "The response today has been wonderful. As of 3 o'clock this afternoon, we've already had over 800 customers. So we're very happy about that."
More than 50 people also stopped by Friday to donate. The new thrift store employs 30 people. Its proceeds will go to the Salvation Army's Adult Rehab Center on South Division.
