FRUITLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- A Muskegon-area lighthouse is expected to continue to be preserved under an agreement between a nonprofit group and Muskegon County's Fruitland Township.
The Muskegon Chronicle reports Thursday that under the agreement the Ludington-based Sable Points Lighthouse Keepers Association would assume responsibility for operating the White River Light Station. That includes staffing as well as running its gift shop.
The agreement was being finalized.
Fruitland Township will retain ownership of the lighthouse. The 136-year structure has been operated by the township since 1966.
