Pronto Pups in Grand Haven opens for one winter weekend

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WZZM) -- They're willing to fight through snow, wind, and freezing temperatures in Grand Haven to taste a special corn dog.

This is the only winter weekend that "Pronto Pups" is opening its stand to customers.  With that in mind, they started pouring in, buying corn dogs a handful at a time.

At 13 degrees and a freezing River in the back drop, you might think the corn dog stand was a joke.  The truth is it actually started as one.

"Just to mess with people's heads for fun," says Carl Nelson, owner of "Pronto Pups".

But now it's serious business.

"We were totally blown away by people coming in during the middle of winter," says Carlson.

"Pronto Pups" is an easy distraction all summer long. But this weekend you have to brave the cold if you want to seize the moment.

For people who know the stand is open, its all about the hot dogs.   But for a lot of other people a cell phone is just as important so they can call their family and friends.

"Honey, big news,  Pronto Pups is open today and you have to take William" says one customer to her husband on the phone.

Even with 5500 corn dogs, you don't know how fast they'll go.

Each corn dog is about 200 calories.  "Pronto Pups" is open 11am to 8pm through Sunday.
