A Smile as Big as the Moon

Media and the public are invited to Red Carpet activities and a big screen movie premiere of "A Smile as Big as the Moon" on January 23 at Celebration Cinema North. Both the book and movie are based on actual events in a regional special education program at Forest Hills Public Schools. This event will celebrate the abilities of students with special needs.

Red Carpet activities include:
• Red Carpet interviews of the original teachers and Space Camp students
• Space Camp representatives with their astronaut "mascot"
• Kent Transition Center students (students with learning disabilities, special needs or at-risk) demonstrating their programs,
- Hospitality students decorating cakes
- Horticulture/Agriscience students creating floral displays
- Transportation students polishing a car hood
- Business students greeting the public at our Information Table
• Special Olympics with student athletes
• Very Special Arts with a display of artwork created by students with special needs
• Book signing with author and former Forest Hills teacher Mike Kerjes
• Family photo op with outer space backgrounds

The Red Carpet Activities run from 6:00pm-6:40pm.  The movie premiere is from 6:45pm-8:00pm, with Q & A immediately following

The Hallmark Hall of Fame movie is based on a book by Mike Kersjes and Joe Layden and will be broadcast nationally on January 29 on WZZM 13.
