Casino expansion possible in Michigan
WAYLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- The parking lot was nearly full at the Gun Lake Casino Friday evening. Inside almost every machine had it's wheels turning.
"We've been very pleased with the results this year," says Carter Pavey, director of marketing for Gun Lake Casino. "We've gotten tremendous response and feedback from out guests."
Pavey says that feedback and word of mouth has made the West Michigan casino a focal point for not only the locals, but visitors from far and wide.
Operators say they've also benefitted from a lack of snow this season.
"We've been blessed so far with an unusual warm winter, so it gives guests a chance to get out of the house, and not be locked up due to the weather," said Pavey.
As for the future, they have no comment on how a proposed casino in Lansing would potentially affect their gaming, nor are they talking about expanding the Gun Lake property.
According to casino marketing officials, the benefits to the local economy have blossomed since the opening one year ago.
"They've [the community] received it very well, just over this last year we've given a little over $2 million to the local revenue sharing board, and about $8.3 million to the state with our compact agreement with the state and local government," added Pavey.
