GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- As football fans prepare to cheer on their teams this Super Bowl Sunday, the celebration has already started for stores selling televisions.
"[Sales] generally have gone up weeks prior to the Super Bowl, and as it closes in, we generally have a bump in sales," said Scott Ohlman, co-owner of Decker & Sons.
Old models are on sale, new models are on the way in, and like clockwork, people are looking for the top technology of the day. Decker & Sons has been a Grand Rapids staple for 70 years, selling a wide variety of sets, which are always a hot commodity around Super Bowl time.
Researching before shopping could save you from buyer's remorse, as not every HDTV set is alike.
"Our best selling size is a 42 to 46 [inch TV], although 55 doesn't lag behind too much. It just seems to fit a lot of people's rooms," added Ohlman.
According to reviewed.com, LED sets are the top selling type of HDTV, with additional backlighting and durability while saving energy and weighing less.
LCDs are virtually the same; however they have a slightly shorter life span and inferior motion performance when compared to LED sets.
Plasma screens still sell, but they weight more, have less contrast, and don't work well in rooms with lots of sunlight.
