KENTWOOD, Mich. (WZZM) - A pedestrian is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries, after being hit by a car Tuesday morning.
The accident happened on 28th Street near Schaffer Avenue SE around 7:10 a.m. Kentwood Police Chief Richard Mattice says the pedestrian left a bus stop and was crossing 28th Street when the victim was hit by an eastbound car.
The driver of the car says he did not see the pedestrian in time. Investigators say the driver returned to the scene and called police.
The pedestrian was taken to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital with life-threatening Injuries. The victim was undergoing surgery three hours after the accident. Police are not disclosing the pedestrian's identity.
The accident temporarily shut down the intersection, but it has since reopened.
