HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM)- Many job seekers search the internet, make calls, and often still can't land an interview. Now some will be guaranteed interviews through a new program in Holland. It promises each candidate three job interviews by Friday.
Everyday for the past month Steve Falvo is back home with the same problem.
"I have a 13-month old son and I don't have a job today and that's tough," says Falvo.
Even hard work brought no guarantees - until now.
"This doesn't happen often, so its a great opportunity," says Falvo.
The week-long Ready Now program actually guarantees each person three job interviews in the manufacturing industry.
"We do have employers coming to us and say help us fill jobs we can't find people," says Joel Westmaas with Ottawa Co. Michigan Works.
But organizers make no guarantees that every candidate will land the job.
"Any event like this - any career fair - there is going to be a minority of folks who actually land the job, " says Westmaas.
Companies like Stone Plastics have 20 interviews on Friday for only about five jobs.
"How many we hire really depends on how all the candidates perform," says Steve Heethius with Stone Plastics and Manufacturing.
Today Falvo prepped his interview skills, tomorrow he will conduct research, and by Friday he hopes he'll be on track for a new job.
"They're going to be able to look over and say 'Hey dad's got a job. This is what he does for a career' - and that's important to me," says Falvo.
Organizers say some job prospects could be hired in about two weeks. For others it could take a few months.
We're told the number of job openings is also expected to increase this spring.
