The Federal Highway Administration says nearly 60 percent of all deadly pedestrian accidents happen between dusk and dawn.
WALKER, Mich. (WZZM)-Every year, nearly 6,000 pedestrians are killed and 90,000 are injured in the United States.
The Federal Highway Administration says nearly 60 percent of all deadly pedestrian accidents happen between dusk and dawn, and what you wear could save your life.
The agency says blue is one of the worst colors to wear at night. Drivers have to get as close as 55 feet before they see a pedestrian wearing blue. The color red is a slightly better choice, with drivers catching sight of pedestrians at about 80 feet. Pedestrians wearing yellow can be seen at 120 feet, and white clothed pedestrians can be seen about 180 feet away.
However, the best thing to wear is reflective clothing. The Federal Highway Administration says a driver can spot a pedestrian wearing reflective gear 500 feet away.
