Doctors say the most common fireworks related injuries are to the hands and face.
MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM)-Emergency room workers expect to treat a lot of injuries caused by fireworks this week.
All fireworks have the potential to cause serious burns. Doctors say even very quick contact with a lit firework can cause damage.
"Mostly all fireworks burns should be looked at by a medical professional, just because if it is not cared for correctly initially, there could be infection, delayed wound healing and even problems with mobility if it is over a joint," explained D.O. Ryan Offman, with Mercy Health Partners.
Doctors say the most common injuries are to the hands and face. Fireworks that appear to be duds are often the cause of the most damaging burns, because they can go off just as people bend over to pick them up.
